Hi! My name is Jairo (Hi-row) Melgoza.
I’m a photographer based in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles fashion and portrait photographer Jairo Melgoza (Cre8ive Design Studio) can often be found where he loves to be – behind the camera. People often ask how I got my start in photography. I started my artistic career as a Graphic Designer and working with realtors and nightclubs designing flyers. One day, I was asked if I take photos as well. I had an old DSLR camera at the time that I did not know how to use. I figured I would just put it in auto program and shoot away. Since I knew how to use Photoshop, I told myself that I can do a soft edit on the photos and incorporate them in to the flyers I was already designing for them, and away I went and added another service I can offer. At that point, I had stumbled upon some work from a photographers on my Facebook feed. Immediately, I was impressed, intrigued, and motivated to learn how to shoot portraits. Immediately, I started photographing my daughters to learn composition, direction, and teach myself how to edit. A few months later, I was brave enough to purchase a strobe light set up to start teaching myself lighting. I used to watch endless hours of YouTube photography tutorials. Possessed with a photographer’s skilled eye and an artist’s vision, I managed to turn my artistic passion into a profession that specializes in documenting moments of beauty, elegance, and emotion.
When I'm not photographing models, I'm out hunting...searching and prowling the streets for life's unseen moments and breathtaking architecture around us. Hey, I even won second place a few years back on The Los Angeles Times and Samy’s Camera co-sponsored the “Capture LA Photo Contest” to help celebrate Samy’s Camera’s 40 years of business in Los Angeles.
One of the many reasons why I love photography is meeting real people, real emotions, and real relationships fascinate me, translating to an effortless and often candid feel to my imagery. From the planning of a shoot. Scouting of a location or an idea of how to transform a studio to what we are looking to portray. The thought process of which lighting techniques will be best for the shoot while also focusing on the composition and angles that compliments the subject(s) and location. Narrative-driven conceptual images and story-telling scenes is my thing, and I specialize in capturing authentic moments in even the most manufactured of settings. I am cre8tive chameleon. I am not boring nor one-dimensional. I like a lot of different things, so that's what I shoot. I craft the look and feel of each image to suit the story we're trying to tell. Stylistic choices are always made to serve the image and push the narrative forward.
I'm available to shoot fashion, editorials, beauty shoots for commercial/ads, lifestyle portraits, intimates apparel, social media content, designer lookbooks, e-commerce and catalogue assignments, model portfolios, modeling agencies, business and personal branding content, portraiture of all varieties, and any other project that involves a little cre8ive mischief.
